Antimicrobial Resistance, Virulence Properties and Genetic Diversity of Salmonella Typhimurium Recovered from Domestic and Imported Seafood

The quantity of seafood imported and produced by domestic aquaculture farming has increased. Recently, it been reported that multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella Typhimurium may be associated with seafood. However, information is limited to the antimicrobial resistance, virulence properties, genetic diversity S. recovered from This study investigated isolated catfish, shrimp, tilapia. A total 127 isolates were tested for presence multidrug-resistance (MDR), genes (invA, pagC, spvC, spvR), using Sensititre micro-broth dilution method, PCR, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE), respectively. All uniformly susceptible six (amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, ceftiofur, ceftriaxone, imipenem, nitrofurantoin, trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole) 17 antimicrobials genetically diverse. Fifty-three percent resistant at least one 49% multidrug resistant. Ninety-five possessed invA gene, 67% 43% both spvR. results suggest frequently MDR, virulent, have ability cause salmonellosis.
